The David Lynch Foundation has just announced a benefit concert for 10,000 at-risk youth in the Washington D.C. district on Otcober 11th. Entitled “Silence The Violence,” this concert features an all-star class including Katy Perry, Norah Jones and Mavis Staples and is also set to host the Celebration Gospel Choir, Jeremy Elliot.
The goal of this benefit is to help bring evidence based transcendental meditation techniques to various vulnerable communities in the D.C. district. They will also bring these techniques to various in-school and after school programs, churches and community centers, recovery programs, and detention centers in partnership with THEARC (Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus).
“I have been practicing TM for over nine years, and it has changed my life,” Katy Perry stated in a press release. “It is one of the most important tools I use to keep me balanced and creative with a positive mindset. I am so proud to give an intimate performance at the “Silence the Violence” benefit concert at The Anthem on October 11 to raise funds to bring the power of meditation to 10,000 D.C.-area young people.”
According to the David Lynch Foundation, studies have shown that transcendental meditation reduces stress, heals PTSD, lowers substance abuse, improves academic performance and graduation rates, and reduces arrests for violent crime. The multi-talented musician, film director and visual artist practiced transcendental meditation for over 46 years and says that it has also contributed significantly to the creative process.
Lynch has helped fund the foundation for many years by hosting various benefit concerts and unique shows such as the Festival Of Disruption concerts, held in both Los Angeles and New York City. His 2018 line-up held headlining sets from Tokimonsta, The Mercury Rev, Mike Patton and DJ Q-Bert.
One headliner, Perry, is a notable pop performer, however she has been embroiled in controversy recently after being accused of sexual harassment by two different accusers. As of press time Perry has not responded to any of the allegations.
Chicago legend Mavis Staples just made her latest studio album release We Get By earlier this year. The singer has been involved with the music industry for over 50 years.
