Courtney Love brought high energy to the inaugural YOLA Fest last Sunday! Created by singer and producer Lykke Li, 2019 YOLA Fest assembled an all-female lineup featuring established artists, including Charli XCX, SOPHIE, Cat Power and Courtney Love. Rising stars such as Megan Thee Stallion, Kelsey Yu and others also formed part of the festival. According to Spin, the frontwoman from alternative rock band Hole performed series of classic songs, including Hole songs “Miss World,” “Asking For It,” “Doll Parts” and “Malibu.”
The punk-rock pioneer also reinterpreted “Gold Dust Woman,” a song from the best-selling Fleetwood Mac album Rumours. The song recorded by Hole in 1996 was also on the soundtrack to the sequel for The Crow. Love’s raspy, unpolished vocals sung through the lyrics and displayed the symbolic ambiance behind the song, the depression of using drugs to deal with love-loss devastation. At the end of the gig, Love wrapped up with a cover of Echo and the Bunnymen’s 1984 single “The Killing Moon.” It is cited as one of the British band’s greatest songs and highest-charting hits. Saying “let’s fucking disrupt things and make trouble,” Love closed her set with a cathartic rendition, leaving her unconventional spirit on the stage. Speaking of Courtney Love, she was granted, alongside her daughter Frances Bean, a permanent restraining order against former manager Sam Lutfi . Earlier this year, it’s also reported that the punk-rock legend revived her long-standing feud with rock band Bikini Kill and Kathleen Hanna after the group’s reunion. Last year, Courtney Love was honored to be guest at the Basilica Hudson Benefit for her cultural inspiration and societal influence.
