Redd Kross returns with new music after nearly 7 years since their 2012 sixth studio album, Researching the Blues. For the Alternative Rock group from Hawthorne, California, Redd Kross’ latest single from their upcoming 8th studio album, Beyond The Door, is blast from the past. The band enlists the help, in the form of a cover, to the classic 1994 single “When Do I Get To Sing ‘My Way’” by famed pop and rock group, Sparks.

For their rendition, Redd Kross’ frontman Jeff McDonald does not deviate from the lyrics whatsoever, but the band definitely changes the more electronic dance pop feel of the original. Instead they opt for a more garage band approach and trade in the synth melodies with more hard rock chords.

What makes the 2019 version of “When Do I Get To Sing ‘My Way’” so interesting is that there is a parallel to both artists. Sparks is a duo that is made up of siblings Ron (vocalist) and Russell (keyboardist) Mael. As is similar that Redd Kross consists of brothers Jeff (lead singer) and Steve (bass guitarist) McDonald. Both have the distinctive qualities in that they capture their individual genres so well. The original 1994 released single of “When Do I Get To Sing ‘My Way'” by Sparks was off their 16th studio album, Gratuitous Sax and Senseless Violins.

The new project by Redd Kross is a celebration of sorts. As previously reported by mxdwn.com frontman Jeff McDonald went on to describe, in the band’s press release for their latest album, their “total commitment to having the best f*cking time we can have while we’re all still here” (what they like to call “The Party”). Brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald collaborate closely in this record, which celebrates their love beyond the scope of music including culture. Steven says: “Jeff is still very much the driving force behind the compositions, but with more help from me than ever. Jeff and I haven’t shared this much of the writing and singing since Born Innocent in 1981.”

Redd Kross’ forthcoming album Beyond The Door is set to be released this Friday August 23rd via Merge Records. You can stream the latest single below via YouTube.
