Uber-prolific King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are easily one of rock’s most prolific acts. They released their new album Infest The Rat’s Nest this morning, introducing a thrash metal element to their neo-psych attack, further proving they’re one of the most diverse and talented acts in alternative rock. To accompany the release of their new album, the band has shared a new free online video game called Mars for the Rich that features a song from the new album by the same name.
The game is a first-person shooter, with nothing visible but a single handgun. The user then navigates through (some extremely touchy) controls that guides them through empty temple ruins. There, the user will find a single bullet on a pedestal, which when touched sets off a chain reaction, creating more ammunition but also bringing out hoards of killer infested rats. You can play the game here.
As a nod to the game title, the band’s song “Mars For The Rich” plays in the background. Warning: you begin the game with no ammunition – finding a way to bring up ammo also introduces health but it also introduces the enemy of the game, AKA hoards of relentless rats that drain your health at an alarming rate.
Previous singles from the Australian band’s new album include “Planet B,” which features an ultra-violent music video. In 2017 the band released an astounding five LPs, certainly giving Ty Segall a run for his money. In 2018 they released no new music, but 2018 sees them finding a middle ground with with albums. First came Fishing for Fishies and now they’ve got Infest the Rats Nest.
