The Smashing Pumpkins have been performing a cover of James Taylor’s iconic “Fire and Rain” in concert during their new tour. The band began a co-headlining tour with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds last week, bringing out the all new cover as part of their tour setlist. The tour will have the band playing all across the United States, hopefully giving as many fans as possible an opportunity to hear them perform.
The Smashing Pumpkins are doing a good job of honoring the classic song with their rendition, adding an extended instrumental section to the beginning of the track at their performances. The tour began in Camden, New Jersey on August 8th, which is the first time the group performed the song live. Their recent shows have all been near the east coast, with the tour taking them further west as it goes along. A few of the upcoming shows are set to take place in Chicago, Dallas and San Diego. Originally The Smashing Pumpkins and Noel Gallagher were set to do a large show in Los Angeles as well, however that was changed earlier this year.
Last year, The Smashing Pumpkins released their newest album, a project titled Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. The project was the group’s first in nearly two decades and was highly anticipated by fans and critics alike. The album was preceded by the singles “Knights Of Malta” and “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts).” This new tour is one of the first chances that the band has had to perform a lot of their new music live, making it a must see event. Fans can find The Smashing Pumpkins new live rendition of “Fire and Rain” below, alongside a live version by James Taylor.
