Guitarists Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison have announced the group of performers who will be joining them at their Above Ground 2019 benefit concert. The event is set to raise money for mental health awareness and will feature Navarro, Morrison and others performing covers of famous tracks. The rest of the band that was announced includes Perry Farrell, Juliette Lewis and Billy Idol. The band will be performing the entirety of The Stooges’ first album, the self titled project The Stooges, along with the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie.
This year’s event is set to be the second iteration of Above Ground and will take place next month. The concert, which is slated for September 16th, will take place at Fonda Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Above Ground is working in conjunction with MusiCares Recording Academy, the organization which also hosts the Grammy awards ceremonies. The goal of the event is to raise funds to be donated to help those suffering from mental illness, an issue that MusiCares has made a priority in the past.
Above Ground is going to be a great opportunity for artists and fans to come out to support a great cause and hear some great music. The artists will be performing both of the aforementioned albums in their entirety, putting their own spin on the classic projects. Tickets to the concert are available here.
UPDATE (9/6): Above Ground has added more stars to it’s already stacked lineup. Joining Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison at the show will be Jack Black, Al Jourgensen, Brad Wilk of Prophets of Rage, Carmine Rojas from David Bowie’s band, Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction, Franky Perez of Deadland Ritual, Twiggy, Dave Kushner of Velvet Revolver, Mixi Demner of Stitched Up Heart, Jason Christopher, Erik Eldenius & Paul Trudeau of Billy Idol, Donovan Leitch and Julie Mintz.
