The GOASTT Release Cover of 13th Floor Elevators’ “You’re Gonna Miss Me” as Tribute to Roky Erickson

The GOASTT – better known as Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl – have released a tribute to the late psych-rock legend Roky Erickson with a cover of his band’s most famous (and really, only) hit “You’re Gonna Miss Me.” The cover is a pretty straightforward rendition, though it does replace the maniacal acoustic strumming with bass-heavy, distorted guitars while retaining the forewarning lyricism of the original. The GOASTT takes the song from its proto-psych garage roots and brings it to the modern era with plenty of contemporary psychedelic elements.

Kemp Muhl and Lennon have been plenty busy over the last few years. While The GOASTT (aka The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger) haven’t released a lot of music recently, Kemp Muhl’s other band UNI has released several new songs and Lennon has been hard at work focusing on his partnership with Les Claypool in the Claypool Lennon Delirium. UNI has released songs like “DDT,” “The Girl Who Has It All,” “Destroyer” and most recently the LBGTQ anthem “American Fag.”

The Claypool Lennon Delirium just wrapped up a co-headlining tour with Jim James of My Morning Jacket, performing at venues such as The Wiltern in Los Angeles. They were recently joined by singer Geddy Lee of Rush to perform cover of the Beatles classic “Tomorrow Never Knows.” The band released their sophomore album South of Reality in February, which was preceded by their debut Monolith of Phobos from 2016.

The Claypool Lennon Delirium has several dates coming up to finish out 2019. They’ll be playing with The Flaming Lips, UNI and several festivals, including Desert Daze, Hipnosis and Jam Cruise.
