Cashmere Cat aka the Norwegian producer, Magnus August Høiberg just released an animated music video, “EMOTIONS” which features an adorable and sweet, blue-haired Princess Catgirl who poetically dances in the video against a scenic background. The video begins with the title intro which reads, Princess Catgirl the typeface similar to a Disney premiere. Then an extremely high pitch tone sets the pace against an electronic track beat. Princess Catgirl moves slowly and hangs from branches while running here and there, all while mouthing lyrics from the song which mostly feature the word, ’emotions’ on repeat.
Princess Catgirl wears a long red cape and when it turns dark there are illuminated, glowing eyes that watch her in the dark. To combat her fears, she dances alone but imitates a dance partner which seems to comfort her as the eyes watch. “Emotions” is the first track from Cashmere Cat’s forthcoming new album, Princess Catgirl. The video was directed by Jake Schreier and features Emmy-winning actor Margaret Qualley (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Fosse/Verdon, The Leftovers) as Princess Catgirl. The album is set to be released on September 20 via Mad Love/Interscope Records.
Cashmere Cat, says of Princess Catgirl. “She’s very cute and powerful. I’ve always been shy—since the beginning of being an artist I would hide my face, not want to do interviews, hide behind other artists. I guess you could say I was scared. So I created Princess Catgirl to be the face of my music. She makes me feel safe.”
Since the release of his debut album, 9 in 2017, Cashmere Cat devoted himself to producing for some of pop’s biggest stars, working with his longtime friend and creative collaborator benny blanco extensively, as well as Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello on their current smash hit “Señorita,” Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Halsey, FKA twigs, Major Lazer, Lil Dicky, Nas, Francis & The Lights and many more. Cashmere Cat has become one of the most acclaimed producers in the world.
In 2018, Cashmere Cat did the MEØW tour with Danish pop singer MØ with tour stops in Montreal, Boston, D.C., New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, Portland and other cities. His tracks have an ultra electronic feel, set against a distant, natural setting that take you far, far away into a land of make believe, transcending the normal state.
