Jack Black Announces That He Recorded A Song With Jack White

A collaboration between two guitar wielding frontman named Jack from two completely different rock duos is no longer just a punchline from the early 2000s. Jack Black, from Tenacious D explained during a live performance in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday that he recorded at Jack White’s studio, Third Man Records, earlier that day.

While Black confirmed the collaboration, it is unknown what role White took during the recording process, meaning he either added vocals, guitar parts or may have simply just produced the tracks that Tenacious D recorded. In addition, neither a title, nor a release date for the track has been confirmed as of press time. While the duo couldn’t record the song inside White’s house, they did record a meet up with White and mentioned recording this track on Jack Black’s YouTube channel in a video entitled “Jack Gray.” This mention occurs at the 8:50 mark.

Due to their sharply different celebrity statuses, with White being acclaimed for fronting the influential garage rock band White Stripes, and Black for his lucrative movie career, in addition to fronting the comedy rock duo Tenacious D, meet-ups among the two have been rare. Their first appearance in a room together occurred this past June, when Black jokingly stated that the band hired a new “merch guy,” which was shown to be White.

White has been touring consistently since the White Stripes’ break-up, and has been busy managing his record label Third Man Records from his home in Nashville, Tennessee. Earlier this year it was announced that the record label would be remixing and rereleasing material from his pre-White Stripes band The Go’s with a remastering of their album Whatcha Doing’.

Black on the other hand just recently started touring again with Tenacious D last year, after a nearly 5 year hiatus from live shows. In addition, the duo finished up work on their latest studio album Post-Apocalypto last year, ending a nearly 6 year hiatus between albums.

“We have a new album coming out called Post-Apocalypto. It’s actually a movie that we made and the album is the soundtrack for that,” Black explained in an interview with Jimmy Fallon. “We put out a record every six years and it’s time for us to butterfly again.”
