The last time all the members of The Byrds were seen together was in 1991 when the folk rock band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Before that, the group disbanded in 1973 after releasing their final studio album Byrds. Throughout the last few years, guitarist and vocalist of The Byrds, David Crosby, has attempted to get the remaining members of the group together for a final few concerts. Crosby took to Twitter a few days ago to reach out to Roger McGuinn, the lead guitarist of The Byrds, and asked if McGuinn wanted to have a reunion. McGuinn has not responded though his representatives have shared that McGuinn is not interested.
This series of exchanges about a reunion began earlier in the year when Cameron Crowe released a musical documentary earlier this year about Crosby called David Crosby: Remember My Name. In the film, Crosby stated, “I still have friends, but all of the guys I made music with won’t even talk to me. One of them hating my guts could be an accident. But [Roger] McGuinn, [Graham] Nash, Neil [Young] and Stephen [Stills] all really dislike me, strongly. I don’t know quite how to undo it.”
After making this comment, Roger McGuinn took to twitter to let Crosby know that his statement about McGuinn disliking him is false. In a tweet McGuinn wrote, “Hey @thedavidcrosby you’re saying I won’t talk to you and hate you. That’s just not true!” Crosby responded to his tweet by saying, “Thanks Roger ….must have got you mixed up with those other guys …so ..want to do a couple of Byrd’s dates ? I’ll just sing harmony …no talking ….?”
After Crosby tweeted McGuinn back, he heard no response from McGuinn directly. However, representatives of McGuinn told Rolling Stone that, “Neither Roger or Chris entertain the idea of a Byrds reunion. Roger was just tired of David crying about being hated. DC is not hated but that doesn’t mean anyone wants to work with him.” Check out the whole twitter exchange below:
