YouTube content creator, Ryan’s Shorts, whose real is name Ryan Hailey, has a comedic take on the recent movie Yesterday, a film in which everyone besides one person forgot the Beatles existed, reports Consequence of Sound.
The YouTube video, titled “YesterSlay,” is a parody of Yesterday, but instead of the world forgetting about the Beatles, the world forgot about the heavy rock band GWAR. The parody trailer starts off with the main character Jack Malick, portrayed by Himesh Patel, who actually does play the main character of the same name in Yesterday, getting hit by a bus at the same time electricity goes out all over the world. When Jack wakes up, he wakes up in a world without GWAR.
He finds this out when he receives a guitar as a gift, and begins to sing a GWAR song to his friends, who are all appalled by the gruesome lyrics and have no idea what Jack is talking about when he explains that it was not an original song but a GWAR song. He tells his friends that “Slayer” is one of the best songs ever written, to which one of them hilariously replied “Well, It’s not Coldplay. It’s not ‘Fix You.’” Confusion and hijinks ensue.
One of the absolute funniest scenes in the trailer is when Jack is at the Piano singing GWAR’s classic song “Let Us Slay” to the tune of the Beatles “Let It Be” in front of, what is assumed to be, his parents and their friend. There’s something just so hilarious about hearing the gore filled lyrics of GWAR set to the gentle tune of “Let It Be.” Just like in the namesake movie, Jack ends up becoming an international superstar by recreating the music the world forgot.
The parody is funny, clever, and even though it is a parody, it holds its own and comes off as completely original. GWAR fans, and people who aren’t fans alike, are sure to get a few laughs out of the video. Fans of the heavy metal band can catch them on their “Use Your Collusion” tour next month, and everyone can watch “YesterSlay” below.
