After nearly a month in a Swedish jail after an alleged assault on the streets of Stockholm, A$AP Rocky has finally been allowed to return to the U.S. This has happened just hours after prosecutors asked the judge to sentence the rapper to 6 months in jail, after witness dropped a claim of a bottle attack during the incident.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of my fans, friends and anyone across the globe who supported me during these last few weeks,” the rapper said in an Instagram post. “This has been a very difficult and humbling experience.”
Closing arguments are set to begin on Friday, however, the final verdict will not be reached until August 14, nearly 12 days from this announcement. The rapper is currently scheduled to perform at the Real Street Music Festival in Anaheim, California.
A$AP Rocky has had one of the most high-profile arrests in recent hip hop memory, as numerous celebrities, and even the United States President Donald Trump came to the rappers defense on social media. In tweet, the president claimed that Kanye West influenced his decision to reach out to the Swedish government regarding this situation.
A$AP Rocky’s lawyer, Slobodan was “satisfied,” with their defense according to CNN. “We had two goals — one goal was that my client was going to be a free man today,” Jovicic, explained. “And then we are hoping for an acquittal in 14 days, but we have to wait and see.”
