Phil Anselmo is changing things up with his new project, ‘EN MINOR.’ Phil is a heavy metal musician most notably known for his work as the lead vocalist for the bands Pantera, Down, and Superjoint Ritual. Accompanied by Kevin Bond, Stephen Taylor, Calvin Dover, Joiner Dover, Steve Bernal, and Jimmy Bower, this supergroup is putting a twist on metal music with their acoustic band ‘EN MINOR.’ Their new single, ‘On the Floor’ gives off an old-school southern rock feel, with the grungy, raspy vocal that gives a vibe similar to legendary rock and roll group, Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song will appear on their upcoming, self-titled 7 inch which is releasing tomorrow, August 2nd.
The band is set to make their debut performance at this year’s edition of Psycho Las Vegas on August 16, at the Mandala Bay Resort and Casino. En Minor has been a project in the making since Phil’s early days as a child. Jokingly referred to as his ‘depression-core’, En Minor shows a more Somber side of Phil Anselmo and his writing. He steers away from the typical heavy metal sound, and gives us something that’s more reflective of the dark, deeply haunted, internalized feelings that he was going through. ‘On The Floor’ reflects on a lot of the hard parts in Anselmo’s life including his ugly departure from rising metal band, Pantera. Recent loss of former band member Vinnie Paul brought back feelings all too familiar, as Anselmo had barley survived a heroin overdose in 2001.
The band was just more of a therapeutic project until Anselmo met band member Stephen Taylor, the two started working on some ‘vibey stuff’ and then started recording sessions shortly after that. They re-worked a lot of old tracks that had been recorded and started writing new songs for En Minor. En minor describes themselves not as party music, but as kill the party kind of music. Although it’s going to be a different sound then Anselmo fans are used to, Phil’s acoustic project En Minor is a breathe of fresh air for metal fans.
