Chvrches Lauren Mayberry Responds To Hatebreeds’s Jamey Jasta Over Their Billing At The Deftones Music Festival

Chvrches’ lead singer Lauren Mayberry has responded to some tweets Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta had tweeted about the band. On Monday, Chvruces was announced to play Deftones’ annual Dia De Los Deftones festival in San Diego, CA alongside Deftones, JPEGMAFIA, and Gojira to name few. Shortly after the announcement, Jasta took to Twitter to tweet his frustration of Chvrches being billed over Gojira according to NME. He tweeted, “Who is churches with a v and why the fuck are they playing over Gojira?”  “Get tha fuuuuuck outtta here. Have you ever heard The Heaviest Matter In The Universe? You’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offence. God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes.”

After some Google searches, Jasta then figured out the band’s popularity, then tweeting, “Props to Chvrches booking agent though, that’s a gangster power move haha.”  Mayberry then responded to the series of tweets, saying “Just because someone plays or listens to “pop music” doesn’t mean they don’t understand or appreciate other things.”She continued to say “Deftones curated the lineup so I don’t know how that speaks to problems with The Music Industry. I think it’s important and powerful that they promote the idea of a diverse community and try to bridge gaps instead of being guided by limiting, antiquated ideas about genre.”

Earlier this year, the band had criticized fellow collaborator Marshmello for working with Chris Brown and Tyga, due to their abusive and predator behaviors. “We like and respect Mello as a person but working with people who are predators and abusers enables, excuses and ultimately tacitly endorses that behavior. That is not something we can or will stand behind” the band stated.

Along with Dia De Los Deftones, the band will also be playing Sonoma Harvest Music Festival in September and the All Things Go Fall Classic Festival in October.
