The Highwomen released a new song, “Crowded Table” which has a sweet, harmonizing effect that shows the power of women’s collective voice. It is heartwarming as the lyrics are set perfectly against a slow strumming guitar. The band includes Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires. Their self-titled debut album is slated for release on September 6, 2019 and will feature artists, Jason Isbell, Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, Tanya Tucker, Ray LaMontagne and more.
The song is encouraging with lyrics, “You can hold my hand when you need to let go. I can be a mountain when you feeling valley low. I can be a streetlight showing you the way home.” The voices are in unison and as they join forces are powerful.

The lyrics represent the ideals of Highwomen, which represent inclusivity and a place for everyone to belong and feel welcome. This is especially true with lyrics like, “Everyone’s is a little broken. But everyone belongs.” Carlile said in a statement, “Anyone can be a Highwoman. It’s about banding together, abandoning as much ego as humanly possible, holding one another up and amplifying other women every chance we get. Shoulder to shoulder. One push, one love.”
The Highwomen are the female version with a band’s name similar to country supergroup The Highwaymen, which featured Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. The Highwomen made their live debut on April 1, 2019 at Loretta Lynn’s 87th birthday concert held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Their music video for “Redesigning Women” featured female artists Tanya Tucker, Cam, Lauren Alaina, Cassadee Pope and Wynonna Judd. The song is a tribute to women who work tirelessly holding down their careers full time, then go home to clean the house and raise babies.
Recently, Carlile performed at Mavis Staples 80th birthday bash with multiple artists. The ladies will perform at Brandi Carlile’s Girls Just Wanna Weekend which will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico on January 29 through February 2, 2020. The all female line-up includes Sheryl Crow, Lake Street Drive, Patty Griffin, Lucius, KT Tunstall, Jade Bird, Amanda Shires, Yola, Ruby Amanfu, Natalie Hemby, and Katie Herzig. A comedy performance by Wanda Sykes will also take place at the show.
