Grammy award-winning country singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson announced that he will be releasing a new album that accompanies his new film, SOUND & FURY. The musician dropped the thrilling news at Comic-Con last weekend while on a panel with SOUND & FURY collaborators writer/director Jumpei Mizusaki and character designer Takashi Okazaki.
A mini trailer was also released showing the stellar combination of animation and music.
The album will be Simpson’s first release since his Grammy award-winning 2016 album, A Sailor’s Guide to Earth. The new album/movie marks an innovative combination of Japenese anime and American rock music as Mizuaki and Simpson have combined talents to make this masterpiece.
“We went in without any preconceived notions and came out with a really sleazy, steamy rock n roll record. It’s definitely my most psychedelic. And also my heaviest. I had this idea that it’d be really cool to animate some of these songs, and we ended up with a futuristic, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, samurai film” Sturgill said in a press release.
The film will be released on Netflix and the album will be dropped by Elektrric Records. In other recent news, Simpson recently wrote the theme song for Jim Jarmusch’s anime movie, The Dead Don’t Die, which features Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Selena Gomez.
The singer was also noted for performing at Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival and protesting the Country Music Awards by playing music outside while answering questions about politics and taking donations for the American Civil Liberties Union. ‘
