Shakespears Sisters have released a second single off their new album Singles Party dropped on July 19 via London Records. The English pop and alternative rock outfit from Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit debuted their first new music in 26 years with “All the Queens’ Horses” last week.
This album will no doubt have Shakespears Sisters’ fans losing their minds. Not only Shakespears Sisters came back with new music but also assembled classic hits from the back catalog, including ‘Stay’, ‘You’re History’, ‘Hello (Turn Your Radio On)’ and ‘I Don’t Care.’ The duo is currently recording forthcoming EP due out in this fall.
“C U Next Tuesday” as a piece of gothic-gospel electronica pop collection, is prone to mood swings with simple lyrics. The song starts, “The morning light shines on my face. The Sun is in the sky, yeah. I take my place in the human race. I’m getting ready to fly, yeah. I don’t need to talk to you. Both know what you put me through. I don’t care what you say or do.” The pair of queens stay natural and sleek, jauntily sling all the depression away, singing “I’m gonna C-U-Next-Tuesday, baby. I’m shakin’ my blues. And my walkin’ shoes. I’ll C-U-Next-Tuesday, baby. I’m saying goodbye. That’s goodbye to you.” Short and clean as few words written in strong hands, the song expresses female stiffness and girl-power top to toe.
Dynamite as lyrics, the instruments and vocals of “C U Next Tuesday” bolster the whole track. The distinctively glittering guitar sounds lay down the first base, which recalls classic soundtrack music in 90s movies. Under a sense of retro style, more layers are brought together by heavy and foot-stomping beats. The throaty vocal of Fahey, meanwhile, is charming for ears while the falsetto flutter of Detroit is engaging. In the wake of wavy vibe, “C U Next Tuesday” represents the unique chemistry between the duo who have a strong relationship for years.
