A new track titled “Sweat It Out” from Mija has been released and the electronic track is nothing short of hypnotic with its entrancing sound. The illustrious video features a masked man strumming a cello while a woman wearing a black leotard dances around effortlessly. Everyone is virtually sweating which is altogether sensual as the house sound beats against the lyrics, “Sweat it Out” repeatedly. Mija is featured in the video with her short blonde bob cut and sweat drips down her face, while she mouths the words, “Late night underground, push down, put it down, feels good, you’re all around, sweat it out.” The dancer moves nimbly while the song comes to a halting slow down midway through and Mija’s voice weaves against the trance like beat that brings the tempo back to a dance beat.
In a statement, the track is described as a ‘moody deep house tune’ backed by a remix from Frankfurt’s rising underground don Ludwig A.F. Röhrscheid. The video was filmed and edited by Joel Eliasson in Sweden. He previously collaborated with Mija for the music video of her 2018 track “Notice Me.”
Amber Giles, aka Mija, recently released a song with JR Slayer titled “Stay A Little Longer.” The track has been described as hypnotizing and haunting but slowly progresses as layers of beats, glitchy effects, and distortions get added into the mix. Mija states the song “illustrates three human characteristics: Selfishness, Validity, and Loneliness”.
Mija found her breakthrough in June 2014 when she played the “sunrise set” at 6 a.m. at the Bonarroo Music Festival in Tennessee when Skrillex, came across the stage and asked to play a back-to-back set with her. The set received significant attention and that August she played Burning Man and other shows. Encouraged by Skrillex, she moved to Downtown Los Angeles in October 2014.
Giles describes her musical style as “fk a genre” and says she has been the equal of her male peers and that the male domination of the EDM scene is slowly changing; she says “I don’t think about it often — only when asked in interviews”. In 2015 MIJA started Fk A Genre, a tour & promotion brand that programs diverse genres of music into a single show. In 2016 Giles launched Made By Mija, a fashion brand based out of Los Angeles, where she is the primary designer. It features both men’s and women’s lines, as well as shoes and accessories.
