65daysofstatic Announce New Album replicr 2019 For September 2019 Release

Experimental British band 65daysofstatic have just announced a new album entitled replicr 2019, which is set for release on September 27, on Superball Music, their second album for the music label. This will be the groups first full length album release in six years, following their 2013 album Wild Light, an eclectic project known for its unique blend of rave music and post-rock.

“This was supposed to be the future, but that future got cancelled. History is moving but it’s got nowhere to go. It’s piling up all around us. That’s what this record is about,” drummer Rob Jones explained in a press release. “This atemporality is an illusion, it’s the cultural logic of late capitalism, consuming everything faster and faster, each artefact a more diluted replica of the last. Even the idea that ‘pop will eat itself’ is eating itself. We need to find a way out.”

Although this studio album is one of their first official projects to be released in six years, the band have released numerous side projects and EPs, including a subscriber-only album that was announced for release this month. This forthcoming album was announced back in April of this year, and follows several EPs that were released throughout the year, beginning with Kazmir back in May.

This upcoming release is also heavily based on the work of influential German philosopher and essayist Walter Benjamin, particularly his pieces “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction,” and “On the Concept of History.” These pieces are shows through various aspects of the bands music which involves its repetition. Benjamin’s concepts such as the stillstellung , which described the interruption of a mechanical process is also explored, crafting an extremely complex narrative structure based on historical materialism.

The exploration of these themes comes about three years after the band’s conflict with Universal’s Digital Distribution, which took down the band’s music for No Man’s Sky. This saw the media giant take down numerous videos on the YouTube platform for using this music and prevented the band from uploading the music on their own SoundCloud page.
