Months after the death of Nipsey Hussle, it was made known that the Los Angeles Police Department and the city attorney’s office are investigating the late rapper. The investigation started before Nipsey Hussle’s death and sought to figure out if Nipsey Hussle’s strip mall containing his Marathon Clothing store, was a center for gang activity. However, prior to his death, Nipsey and the LAPD arranged a time to meet so both parties could discuss how to end gang violence in LA. Due to these reasons the primary motivation for the investigation is unclear.
According to the Times, before the murder of Nipsey Hussle investigators worried that such a situation would take place. When the Times asked the LAPD for specific details on the investigation they declined however, they did mention that the LAPD is currently working through a negotiation with Nipsey Hussle’s associates on the property. The spokesperson stated that this is being done in order “to mitigate some of those crime issues.” The report states that officials from the city of Los Angeles put pressure on the people who owned the strip mall before Nipsey Hussle to evict him but in the end they decided to sell the property to Nipsey Hussle and investors.
Life after Nipsey Hussle’s death, in addition to the investigation, has proved complicated. Eric Holder, the man charged with the murder of Nipsey Hussle, pleaded not guilty back in April. Most recently, at Nipsey’s funeral procession a drive by shooting occurred resulting in four injuries and one death.
