The Hurting Kind received much critical acclaim with Uncut saying “White has found his sweet spot in the downhome elegance of Nashville’s golden age.” White collaborated with writers Whisperin’ Bill Anderson and Bobby Braddock. Braddock stated in a press release that “Coming out of each and every one of these situations, I got a resounding thumbs-up that I was on that right track, I didn’t need anybody else’s approval after that.” White continues saying. The new album serves as the follow up to his 2016 album Beulah, with Rolling Stone saying “The strength of White’s songwriting lies in the masterful balance he strikes between character and confession.” The Hurting Kind is White’s third solo album after departing from the Grammy-nominated duo.
