Glen Hansard Reveals Minimalist Black And White Animated Video For “The Closing Door”

Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard has released a new music video for his song “The Closing Door.” The over four-minute-long video is backed by a smooth sounding lullaby and a chilling orchestral arrangement.

The stop motion animated video emits an eerie effect with black and white visuals that cut to a hypnotizing tunnel, miraculously evolving into a lonely crow sitting on a tree. The song and the video go hand-in-hand with each other as their equally otherworldy, smooth and ghostly vibes complement on another to form a clear message: self-discovery requires pain.

The constant focus on the lonely figure in the shadows appears to symbolize the uncertainty of life with its trial and tribulations. Door after door opening, the mysterious man walking in the video is on a mission to reach a destination where no one knows.

This video marks a new creative step for Hansard because it is the first animated video that the singer has released.

In April, Hansard came out with an entirely new album called This Wild Willing which has a vast array of collaborations from Iranian singer and Daf player Aida Shahghasemi to traditional Irish musician Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich.

In May, the singer released a music video shot in the streets of Paris for one of the songs of his new album called  “Don’t Settle,”  which is a strong acoustic anthem about self-empowerment.

This year the singer announced his Europe/U.S. tour which will wrap up in Prague on November 28.

Alex Myers: I'm an Okie living in L.A. writing about music and other things that I'm passionate about. I was raised by musicians and I grew up playing bass guitar, piano and cello. You can always find me with my headphones on or glued to my phone reading the latest music news. My passion for music lead me to attend college at Loyola Marymount University in L.A. with the dreams of making a living in the music industry. After interning for two record labels I was certain that working in the music industry was not for me. However, when I started writing for my college's newspaper, I figured out that I was a talented writer and I subsequently changed my career path. Now I'm combining my two passions and aspiring to become a music writer.
