Instrumental rock trio The Messthetics have announced their second full-length project. Titled Anthropocosmic Nest, the 11-track album is due to be released on September 6th by Dischord Records, the same label as their first release. The group described the upcoming project as “perfectly captur[ing] the trio’s current live dynamic, complete with improvisational tangents, playful experimentation, and cathartic sprawl”.
With the announcement of the upcoming album, the group also released its first single for the new project. The new song is called “Better Wings”.
The Messthetics were founded by two former members of punk rock band Fugazi’s rhythm section, Joe Lally and Brendan Canty, along with jazz and experimental guitarist Anthony Pirog. Their self-titled first album was released on March 23rd, 2018. The band is currently on tour in the Northeast, with their next show at Space in Portland, Maine on July 13th. They’ll be visiting about 20 venues all over the country on the current tour, including a few in Canada, and concluding the tour with a festival performance in Dana Point, California at the Ohana Festival on September 27th.
