Eddie Vedder’s childhood dream turned into reality last night when he sang “The Punk and The Godfather” with The Who at Wembley Stadium. The song was released in 1973 on the band’s classic Quadrophenia album when Vedder was only nine. The singer claimed in RollingStone interview that it “saved” him.

“It saved my life… It was something I could catch because for some reason it seemed like I could not relate to anyone in the world,” Vedder said.

A fan in the crowd filmed the performance and Vedder’s face clearly showed expressions of awe and shock as he sang along with The Who’s lead singer, Roger Daltrey. The legendary singer welcomed Vedder on stage by saying “[Vedder is] going to share this song with me because he knows where it came from.”

Vedder joined The Who while they are in the midst of their “Moving On! Tour,” which will end in Edmonton, Alberta this fall. While on tour, Daltrey announced that he will most likely lose his voice within the next five years in an interview with Consequence of Sound.

However, the singer clarified that he has not experienced any weakening of his voice so far. On the other hand, Vedder has experience difficulties with his voice while touring.

Pearl Jam had to cancel their June 19 performance at the London O2 Arena when Vedder had to rest his vocal cords. This was the first time that Pearl Jam has ever canceled a tour, which left fans in shock.

Vedder is scheduled to headline at Ohana Festival this September in Dana Point, California.

Alex Myers: I'm an Okie living in L.A. writing about music and other things that I'm passionate about. I was raised by musicians and I grew up playing bass guitar, piano and cello. You can always find me with my headphones on or glued to my phone reading the latest music news. My passion for music lead me to attend college at Loyola Marymount University in L.A. with the dreams of making a living in the music industry. After interning for two record labels I was certain that working in the music industry was not for me. However, when I started writing for my college's newspaper, I figured out that I was a talented writer and I subsequently changed my career path. Now I'm combining my two passions and aspiring to become a music writer.
