Beck Drops Raw New Video For “Saw Lightning (Freestyle)”

Released in April, the original version of “Saw Lightning” featuring Pharrell accompanied the announcement of Beck’s upcoming album Hyperspace. As the follow-up album of 2017’s album Colors, as well as Beck’s 14th full-length studio album, Hyperspace, a release date has yet to be announced.

The Grammy-winner has decided to drop a stripped-down but authentic music video before announcing the release date. Directed by Giovanni Ribisi and edited by Nick Roney, “Saw Lightning (Freestyle)” is grainy black-and-white video without dramatic scenes. In this video, Beck wears a smart suit with sartorial excellence and a simple hat, freestyling the whole song gracefully. Adding the tempo of stomping steps and playing recognizable harmonica riffs, the song attaches more interesting layers without being busy. Beck puts his full attention and passion for the performance. Combining the gritty and artistic image setting, the performance goes beyond a “freestyle.”

Beck and The Bird and The Bee recently covered a new version of Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher,” featuring Beck that can be viewed here. Co-headlining with Cage the Elephant, Beck announced his summer “Night Running Tour.” Purchase tickets for all of his upcoming shows here.
