According to Consequence of Sound, Stevie Wonder will be taking a break from touring to undergo a kidney transplant. He revealed this news directly to his fans during his set at the British Summer Time Hyde Park music festival. Despite the somewhat gloomy news, Wonder remained extremely confident, saying “You ain’t got to hear no rumors about nothing; I told you what’s up — I’m good”.
Wonder will be be having the surgical procedure done later this year. There is not currently any information available on where the surgery will be taking place, however he did note at the Hyde Park show that he has already secured a donor.
Wonder has enjoyed a long career in music that began at a very young age. He achieved his first #1 hit with “Fingertips” at the age of 13, making him the youngest artist to ever top the Billboard Hot 100. He went on to attain nine more #1 singles and three #1 albums over the course of his nearly six decade long career. Wonder is one of the most well-known artists in American popular music and one of the best selling artists of all time with about 100 million records sold.
