Industrial rock band Uniform and noise duo The Body have announced a second collaborative album. The album, to be released on August 16th, will be called Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back. The two groups have previously worked together on the 2018 album, Mental Wounds Not Healing. The band has also recently released “Penance”, the first single for the upcoming album.
Uniform and The Body introduce “Penance” with an incessant and throbbing synth tone and a few kick drum hits, as the wall of noise starts to develop. High-pitched screams over the now full formed noise (and continued drum hits) make up most of the first minute. The groups then change both their vocal and production approach, opting for more of a lower-pitched, shouted style of vocals over the same noise, but now accompanied by another synth that wouldn’t be out of place in a 80s horror film soundtrack. “Penance” alternates between these two styles for most of its runtime. The song concludes with a few brief but beautiful twinkling synth notes after the rest of the instrumentation has disappeared completely.
Uniform was formed in New York City in 2013. They have released four projects since their formation, remaining mostly focused on a mixture of industrial rock and metal. Their last album, The Long Walk, was released in August 2018. The Body was formed in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1999, and has since recorded seven studio albums as a duo, and eight collaborative projects with a variety of artists. The most well-known of these collaborations are probably their two albums with grindcore band Full Of Hell.
