Refused Teams Up With Cyberpunk 2077 Serving As The Sounds and Voice Of In-Game Band SAMURAI

The Swedish punk rock band Refused has teamed up with the Polish video game developer CD Projekt Red to create all new music for their upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077. In the game itself, Refused will be voicing and playing the band SAMURAI. As SAMURAI, Refused released a new song called “Chippin’ In” for the upcoming release of Cyberpunk 2077. The game is a sequel to the original tabletop game called Cyberpunk 2020, an RPG with themes of glam rock, 80s culture, and science fiction. Cyberpunk 2077 is a continuation of Cyberpunk 2020 and chronologically will take place 57 years later than the original game. Cyberpunk 2077 will also be a first person open world RPG set in the dystopian Night City. Check out more information about Cyberpunk 2077 here. 

For the video game, Refused recorded, produced, and wrote a whole EP of SAMURAI songs and greatest hits with CD Projekt Red’s team of composers headed by Marcin Przybyłowicz. The EP has both new and original SAMURAI songs written by Refused and songs which are heavily influenced by the original game. So far, “Chippin’ In” has been the first song they’ve released off the EP. Check it out below:

In regards to the game, Marcin Przybyłowicz stated, “I’m incredibly excited about having Refused on board for Cyberpunk 2077. I know for a fact there are a lot of fans of the band at the studio, including Piotr Adamczyk, one of the composers working on the game, who came to me with the idea for this collaboration. I’m very happy he did, because the massive riffs, powerful drums, and hard-hitting vocals the guys from Refused deliver as SAMURAI have blown me away. I can wholeheartedly say the punk factor of Cyberpunk 2077’s music is through the roof!”

A great deal of effort has been put into the making of Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red even had to implement “non-obligatory crunch policy” while making a demo of the game in time for this year’s E3. This meant that during the crunch time employees were allowed to take off and take a break without any questions asked. Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077 will not have a morality system. This means that players will not be punished for making “right” or “wrong” decisions while playing.
