Throwing Muses Announces First Live Shows in Nearly 5 Years

For the first time in five years, art-punk trailblazers Throwing Muses led by musician Kristin Hersh have announced their first live shows since their 2014 American tour. Three lucky cities, Boston, San Diego, and Pasadena can expect the attendance of Throwing Muses. The first show is August 23 at Boston’s City Winery, followed by August 20 at San Diego’s Soda Bar and the third on August 31 at the Pasadena Daydream Festival. More dates are expected to be added at a later date. At this time, Throwing Muses are working on their next album while the month of June has singer-songwriter Hersh currently tied up with East Coast tour dates for her electric trio.

Comprised of Kristin Hersh, David Narcizo and Bernard George, Throwing Muses is recognized as a groundbreaking band who changed the face of alternative music rather than follow the rules in the book.

Their current dates are a followup to Hersh’s current tour as an electric trio, together with Fred Abong and Rob Ahlers, drummer in Hersh’s other band 50FOOTWAVE. For the rest of this month, she will be touring the East Coast in support of her album Possible Dust Clouds, with Fred Abong also performing as an opening solo set.

Hersh describes her band as “Three shy friends from a little island, freaking the f*** out.

In support of his new EP “Pulse” Fred Abong, formerly a member of Throwing Muses will be the opening act for the band during the Boston and San Diego shows. His music is described as “ragged Replacements” and “Elliott Smith with balls”.

Hersh describes her band as “Three shy friends from a little island, freaking the f*** out.

As the press release noted, after signing to 4AD and Sire/Warner Brothers, Kristin Hersh soon realized that she wasn’t interested in the corporate industry game. Rather than continue, she traded her first solo record, “Hips and Makers,” featuring Your Ghost, for her band’s freedom.

“Released from contractual obligations, Hersh and her bands—including 50FOOTWAVE, who pioneered the ‘pay what you want’ model—are now entirely listener-supported.”
