The Ocean Collective Release New Video Addressing Climate Change “Permian: The Great Dying”

A brand new music video has been released tackling the issue of climate change and where the planet is headed. Metal rock band The Ocean Collective has worked together with Billboard to put out a new video for their track “Permian: The Great Dying.” The song was originally released as part of the group’s 2018 album, Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic. The Ocean Collective decided to revisit the song now, however, in order to work with Billboard to create a warning for the coming consequences of climate change. The lyrics and themes behind the song itself already mirrored those being reinforced by the new video, making the idea a perfect fit. The video comes in at a little over nine minutes log, as “Permian: The Great Dying” is an incredibly lengthy track.

The new visuals show the journey of a man trapped alone on an island, forced to survive through a variety of natural disasters and obstacles. This man has to go through storms, fire and inhospitable landscape throughout the video, alluding to various forms of the effects of climate change. The music video itself was filmed in a variety of locations across the world, with portions being shot in Thailand and India. The project of turning the track into an anthem about climate change was undertaken by filmmaker Craig Murray, who worked with the similarities between the aggressive nature of the song originally and of the earth if nothing changes regarding the environment. For those who are interested about the attribution of the track to climate change, and those who are fans of The Ocean Collective itself, the new music video can be found linked below.
