Chelsea Wolfe Announces New Album Birth of Violence and Shares New Song “The Mother Road”

Today, Chelsea Wolfe has announced the release of her new album Birth of Violence, which will be released on September 13 on Sargent House. In addition to the album announcement, she’s shared a song from the record called “The Mother Road.” For this latest album, Wolfe has taken her songwriting in a more stripped-down direction, exuding the folk influences that highlight her incredible songwriting ability. In that spirit, she’s announced a fall 2019 acoustic North American tour.

“The Mother Road” features rich instrumentation that fills the speakers but allows Wolfe’s angelic singing to float atop the mix. While it starts slow and mellow, it gradually builds in sound and intensity until the finale of pounding tom drums and cascading stringed instruments. Ben Chisholm worked with Wolfe on the album, which lyrically uses familiar themes of Americana from the country and folk traditions. While “The Mother Road” doesn’t suggest a fully acoustic sound that the artist hinted at on social media earlier this year, it does show a different side of Wolfe than her previous album, 2017’s excellent Hiss Spun.
