Tove Lo Releases Comedic New Video For “Glad He’s Gone”

Swedish “Habits (Stay High)” songstress, Tove Lo, has released the video for her latest single “Glad He’s Gone,” which mxdwn previously reported on. The single is from her upcoming album Sunshine Kitty.

The video for “Glad That He’s Gone,” directed by Gal Muggia and Vania Heymann, is a hilarious three minute and twenty nine second journey, “SNL skitworthy” saga, detailing the lengths Lo’s character is willing to go through to comfort her friend after getting dumped by a man.

The video starts with a woman, played by Lo, seated with a man, played by Hamza Ouechtati, ready for a dinner date when her friend Uma, played by Lola Fuchs, calls her. Fuchs’ character, in her bedroom, sings the opening line “He’s gone, he’s gone,” and the shot switches back to Lo and Ouechtati where Lo sings the titular line “You’re better off I’m glad that he’s gone.”

Lo’s character fills Ouechtaiti’s character in on what’s been going on with her friend, “I got a girlfriend / She’s got a boyfriend/ She calls me crying every day cause they got problems.” Lo’s character gets up, still addressing Ouechtati’s character while singing “He likes complaining/ She’s compromising/ Coming to me for real advice when he’s just playing/ I can tell she loves him way too deep/ He loves being f*cking hard to please.”

Then she starts talking to Uma, and this is where the video gets really fun. As she asks Uma a bunch of questions about their relationship while walking out of the restaurant, past some cows on a farm, through all types of weather and terrain including the sand in the desert, the snow, the rain, and cliffs. She makes her way past some pretty famous landmarks like Seattle’s Space Needle, and Chicago’s noteworthy above ground trains before making her way to a gas station where she sees a man getting robbed.

She kills the robber by breaking a fish bowl on his head and she, obviously, gets arrested. All through her questioning, trial, and time in the big house, she comforts Uma over the phone and plans her, eventually successful escape. She dyes her hair, creates a new identity, flies back to the city via helicopter, and casually joins Ouechtati’s character once again for dinner, solidifying the fact that she is the type of friend everyone needs.

In the press release sent to mxdwn, Lo revealed that she feels this is the best video she has ever done and that it made her realize how committed she is to acting. Watch the video below and support Sunshine Kitty when it debuts.
