The Smashing Pumpkins teamed up with longtime live-cover partner Amalie Bruun, professionally known as Mykur, to cover Black Sabbath’s classic track “Snowblind,” according to Brooklyn Vegan.
The Smashing Pumpkins have previously brought out Bruun to do covers with them. At their reunion tour this past fall Bruun and Smashing Pumpkins did cover the Fleetwood Mac staple “Landslide” and Bruun is no stranger to doing covers with other bands as mxdwn has previously noted that she joined King Dude in a “foreboding” cover of ABBA’s “The Winner Takes All” which turned the poppy 70s anthem into a dark, updated, heavy ballad.
When Bruun reunited with the Smashing Pumpkins for yet another cover at UK’s Download Festival, it was a closer rendition than the remake of “The Winner Takes All.” Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan asks the crowd at the Download Festival if they would like to see something “special” and that the band has done “nowhere else,” before asking the crowd if they think the “deserve” to hear it to which, of course, the crowd cheers and Corgan, laughs saying “works for me.”
He then introduces Bruun to the crowd where she is met with cheers and screams from the audience. They waste no time getting into a perfect cover of “Snowblind.” The guitarist for Smashing Pumpkins emulated Black Sabbath’s iconic sound perfectly and Bruun’s voice is strong enough to make Ozzy proud as she belts the opening lines “What you get is what you see/ Things don’t come that easily/ Feeling happy in my vein/ Icicles within my brain.”
Watch the clip of the cover Smashing Pumpkins and Bruun did, clocking in at just over six minutes, below.
The Smashing Pumpkins made headlines a lot last year with the release of their first new song in eighteen years “Solara” and the revelation that they were releasing an LP, as mxdwn previously reported. Bruun and Mykur made headlines earlier this year with the announcement of new folk album, as mxdwn reported in January. Hopefully this will not be the last time the Smashing Pumpkins and Bruun treat us to an amazing collab.
