Lead singer of the popular metal band Megadeth and Metallica’s original lead guitarist, Dave Mustaine, has throat cancer.
“I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I’ve faced obstacles before,” Mustaine wrote on the band’s Facebook page.
He informed his followers that his doctors have told him that the treatment plan he’s been placed on has a 90 percent success rate.

NBC news reports, as a result of Mustaine’s diagnosis, the band will be canceling its upcoming 2019 shows but is “some form” will still participate in the 2019 Megacruise and continue to work on a follow-up to their album Dystopia.
Through tough times, Mustaine remains positive and informs his fans that the band will hit the road again as soon as possible.
“Megadeth will be back on the road ASAP,” he wrote. “I’m so thankful for my whole team — family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more.”
UPDATE (6/25): Dave Mustaine has released a video thanking his fans for their support following his announcement of being diagnosed with throat cancer. He thanks his family, his friends and “the best fans in the world” in the short video clip. He promises to “beat this thing together.” According to The PRP, the treatment plan Mustaine and his doctors are pursuing is highly effective, with a success rate of 90%.
