Pop-rock quartet Charly Bliss shared a new video about “Young Enough,” one of the tracks titled same as their second album Young Enough. Check out the music video below.
Directed by Henry Kaplan, the music video features Charly Bliss performing an interpretive and joyful dance in a spacious field. A spinning clock opens the video and occasionally appeared for once later, which also coordinates the slow-motion and fast-motion effects emphasized by video.
Dressed in all white, Charly Bliss sway their body in time to music without serious expression, spin freely in the wind while kicking a cloud of dust. The dances in “Young Enough” are formed piece by piece instead of being well-choreographic, in a way of busy as well as haphazard combination. But the cinematography becomes more interesting when it’s weirdly simple. It’s buoyant and hypnagogic that matches smoothly with the music itself.
Pick up the inspiration from Kate Bush’s music video in “Running Up That Hill,” group member Eva Hendricks believes director Kaplan took the video to another level:
“This video is so magical and unlike anything we’ve ever made before. I told (director) Henry Kaplan that I was feeling inspired by the video for Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush, and he took that initial idea and made something totally beautiful and unique that’s as cinematic and sentimental as the song.”
She also revealed the physical exhaustion during the shooting production, “Despite the fact that this video looks so dreamlike and serene, it was very physically draining to make. The entire crew and anyone who wasn’t in a given shot had to sprint behind the steadicam op so that they wouldn’t be seen and ruin the effect of the giant open field where we were shooting. Between that, the choreography, racing to utilize available daylight, speeding up and slowing down the track to achieve the slow-motion and fast-motion effects, and trying to get perfect, full takes because there’s so few cuts, this was an extremely challenging video to make, but for that reason it’s also our favorite.”
