The guitarist for influential nu-metal band Korn has recently come under fire for appearing in a jam session, and televised appearance on former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee‘s weekly news and talk show, Huckabee, which broadcasts on numerous Christian TV networks. This segment was also recorded for an upcoming documentary with his daughter entitled Loud Krazy Love, which is set to be released later this month.
“@govmikehuckabee and I may agree or disagree on certain social issues; I don’t know. I’ve never talked to him about politics, and I don’t follow politics,” Welch stated in a social media post. “People can say what they want about me jamming with the Gov, but this man has been nothing but humble and extremely kind to me and my daughter. Thank you @govmikehuckabee we had a blast!”
Huckabee has gained a lot of controversy for his outspoken political views, which include his support for Donald Trump, and hardlined stances against abortion and gay marriage. He has also made numerous comments against former United States President Barack Obama, who he once claimed grew up in Kenya, and who’s worldview shaped by madrassas, typically Islamic based educational centers.
In a 2008 interview, Huckabee also stated:
“Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal.”
Welch, who has been a devout Christian for over a decade, is not shy from his religious, views, however not all members of Korn identify with the same beliefs he does. Jonathan Davis, Korn’s frontman, cited Welch’s beliefs as a reason why he focused on examining his own ideologies, which helped him create his first solo debut record.
“I started writing this record 10 years ago. Around that time Korn guitarist, Brian ‘Head’ Welch, split and wanted to focus on being a Christian. I’ve lost a lot of people to that religion and have had a real problem with Christianity for a long time,” David explained in an interview with mxdwn.”Not necessarily the ideology behind it, I very much respect it, I respect all people’s viewpoints — who am I to judge? But, when it was ripping people away from me I just thought ‘Why does this keeping fucking happening to me?’ and ‘Is this real’ and this record was me just trying to figure out where I fit into the whole grand scheme of things, is it religion? Are there other things out there?
