The Roots are coming together to perform their classic album Things Fall Apart from front to back at the Hollywood Bowl. The announcement was made from the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association as the band is slated to do a one night only performance on August 28th at 8 PM. The performance will serve as a celebration to commemorate the 20th year anniversary of the album’s release.
The album is very significant as it is credited not only to be arguably the Philadelphia hip-hop band’s best project but it is also a pivotal point in their careers as they were really able to establish their own unique sound for the first time. Things Fall Apart was released in 1999 and was quickly met with critical acclaim from numerous publications. Their fourth album was also marked the first time that The Roots had gotten their first taste of mainstream success when it debuted #4 on the Billboard 200 and shipped platinum.
The Roots recently wrapped up a performance as they held their 12th annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on June 1st before a medical scare in the crowd had caused fans to flee festival grounds. Read more on the coverage of the incident here.
The Grammy-award winning group announced that there will be special guests that are scheduled to perform but have not announced any names yet.
