Brian Wilson Postpones Summer 2019 Tour Dates Due To Mental Health

Brian Wilson recently broke the news to fans that he has been forced to postpone his upcoming shows for June. The Beach Boys member announced that his Pet Sounds and Greatest Hits would have to be pushed back due to mental health issues via his website. While he did mention that he was in much better shape following his three back surgeries last year, he was beginning to become insecure mentally.

While this might be a shock to some of his fans, this has been a battle that Wilson knows all too well as he has been dealing with his mental health for over 50 years when he was first diagnosed his schizoaffective disorder. The mental battle that Wilson has credited to bad drugs he used within his younger years began to draw a wedge between working with the rest of the band and at times leading him to take a previous hiatus from touring within the early 1980s.

As he has announced that he is taking a break from being on the road again for the month of June, the break will be for long as he is still gearing up to co-headline the “Something Great from ’68” tour with psychedelic band The Zombies that will begin on August 31. With their first show being in Las Vegas, Wilson will be performing The Beach Boys’ 1968 LP Friends along with their 1971 album Surf’s Up. While these are not the band’s most popular albums, this is a wonderful time for diehard fans to watch Wilson perform the b-side hits of these two projects that don’t get as much replay value at concerts but are still gems.

The statement on his website is as follows:

Dear friends,

It is with great regret that I need to postpone my upcoming June tour.

It is no secret that I have been living with mental illness for many decades. There were times when it was unbearable but with doctors and medications I have been able to live a wonderful, healthy and productive life with support from my family, friends and fans who have helped me through this journey.

As you may know in the last year or so I’ve had 3 surgeries on my back. The surgeries were successful and I’m physically stronger than I’ve been in a long time.

However, after my last surgery, I started feeling strange and it’s been pretty scary for a while. I was not feeling like myself. Mentally insecure is how I’d describe it. We’re not sure what is causing it but I do know that it’s not good for me to be on the road right now so I’m heading back to Los Angeles.

I had every intention to do these shows and was excited to get back to performing. I’ve been in the studio recording and rehearsing with my band and have been feeling better. But then it crept back and I’ve been struggling with stuff in my head and saying things I don’t mean and I don’t know why. Its something I’ve never dealt with before and we can’t quite figure it out just yet.

I’m going to rest, recover and work with my doctors on this.

I’m looking forward to my recovery and seeing everyone later in the year.

The music and my fans keep me going and I know this will be something I can AGAIN overcome.

Love & Mercy,

Brian Wilson

#Something Great From ’68 Tor With The Zombies

Kalen Murphy: I was raised across the world so I cannot be grounded to a genre knowing that music is the universal language that makes us move as one. Sometimes I'm Tyler, The Creator with a hint of Donald Glover, other days I can be Tame Impala with a splash of Sylvan Esso. If you're someone that can see colors while listening to a song like me, cheers because we're the last of a dying breed.
