Metal music has a statement
The late ‘70s metal band St. Vitus came out with a new album earlier this month titled St. Vitus. The band has released this album three years after their last album Live Vol. 2. Guitarist Dave Chandler, vocalist Scott Reagers, drummer Henry Vasquez and bass guitarist Patrick Burgers are St. Vitus and they are back to provide metal music for those who are willing to listen.
The album is no different from the band’s previous albums as Reagers’ vocals still provide power and authority to each song. Each track shows how deep Reagers’ vocals can go and the vocals prove how age is not a factor in music. Despite the fact Reagers is the second vocalist for St. Vitus, he is still able to show listeners how he can sing metal music just as well as the original lead singer Scott “ Wino “ Weinrich could.
Other than the vocals, the instruments play a crucial part on the album because they provide the pure metal sound the group is known for. Chandler’s wild guitar solos provide a cutting edge musical sound, rhythm from Burgers’ bass guitar can make people’s heart skip a beat with anticipation when the low sounds from the strings echo in each song and the drumming by Vasquez creates a pattern of loud, powerful and rhythmic beats which blends in nicely with the sounds of guitars and vocals. Also if listened carefully, Vasquez does a little drum solo on a couple of songs while the rest of the band is performing.
One of the songs on the album provides a feeling of deep hatred and is titled “ Last Breathe .” At the beginning of the song, the sound of the guitars and drums echo with emotion and vengeance and then Reagers’ deep, dark, powerful and authoritative voice can be heard singing a dark tune. Reagers sounds like he is talking to someone who has done a bad deed and if the person does not go away, Reagers is more than happy to make sure that person does vanish from his life. If you carefully listen to the song you can hear the bass guitar humming in rhythm while the lead guitar plays a sharp and bold tune. The drumming brings the tempo to the song by the constant use of the cymbals and each beat enhances the song because it sounds like Vasquez is hitting the drums with anger.
Another song which gives a great vibe to the album is called ” Remains.” What makes this song stand out is that the opening of the song starts with deep bass and electric guitar with the tempo of the drums matches the tune both guitars are playing. Burgers; bass guitar skills can be heard rumbling in the background and the low rumbles from the strings contribute to Chandler’s guitar playing. in the song, Chandler has an electrifying solo and it is beautiful because he is able to provide the sense of intensity to keep listeners on the edge of their seats. Reagers’ vocals are dynamic in this song because not only does his vocals sound authoritative, the vocals display the angry emotion Reagers has. The lyrics to the song sounds like a letter written by Reagers where he is telling a person how he is leaving for a better place and that person deserves to stay behind and suffer for the actions against him. There is no doubt that there are a lot of angry emotions in this song and the vocals do a fantastic job to tell a story about hurt. Metal music fans can love this song simply for the music.
Also, the song ” Bloodshed” is a great track because once the song begins, the rumble of the bass strings by Burgers can be heard rumbling by itself before Chandler, Vasquez and Reagers begin to perform their parts. Chandler’s guitar skills are unbelievable on this track because his guitar solo is top notch compared to his solo on the song “Remains.” Vasquez’s drumming matches the tone of the song with each beat and when the song starts he begins hitting the drums for a small solo spot on the album. Reagers’ vocals are authoritative and unapologetic thanks to the lyrics of the song. The lyrics seem to be Reagers warning people to be prepared to be killed and if they panic, the band will kill them for no reason. Overall, this song is the best one on the album as it provides the right touch of metal musical elements, and fans of the band won’t be disappointed with how the song sounds when they listen to it.
This album is by far a great one because it delivers a perfect touch of metal music. Fans of St. Vitus will not be disappointed with the album because it is just as loud and proud compared to the other albums and people who have not heard of the band should listen to the album because the music is worth listening to and they may find a song they will enjoy. Metal fans should be glad St. Vitus is back and the band is here to stay.
