Metronomy Get Shrunken in Video for New Song “Lately” from Upcoming Album to be Released Fall 2019

Metronomy is living “smaller than life” as they released their new video for their new single “Lately” directed by Joseph Mount. The British electronic band released the uptempo track centralizing around a young boy who won’t stop trying to find his way out of the friend-zone with a girl that he believes could “be the greatest”. In retrospect, this is the silent heartbreak that every high schooler goes through having to choose between keeping things simply cordial with their crush versus not having them in your life at all (or maybe I might have felt this on a much more personal level… but still).

The five-piece group stars in the visuals for the new single as they are found as miniature versions of themselves as they perform the song on top of a cassette tape that fell out of a girl’s backpack. The music video was made to pay homage to the 1980s cult classic movie “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids”.

The music video also marks a significant mark for the band’s founder as Mount took control of the vision being brought to life as he made his directorial debut, which he says he has been looking forward to doing more of in the future. This music video is a pop promo in the grand tradition of pop promos: End of school on a Friday afternoon, Mysterious little people that live in a cassette tape, concerned parents and special FX. The song and video are both about growing up. I’ve absolutely loved taking the opportunity to direct our own music videos. I have quite strong opinions on what music videos are for in 2019 and how they should be presented and this has been a chance for me to put my money where my mouth is!

The band is preparing to perform at a string of festivals that stretch throughout the entire summer with their first show being performed tomorrow in Paris. For more information about their festival appearances or ticket pricing, go to the Bandistown website here.

Kalen Murphy: I was raised across the world so I cannot be grounded to a genre knowing that music is the universal language that makes us move as one. Sometimes I'm Tyler, The Creator with a hint of Donald Glover, other days I can be Tame Impala with a splash of Sylvan Esso. If you're someone that can see colors while listening to a song like me, cheers because we're the last of a dying breed.
