Julia Jacklin, accompanied by Black Belt Eagle Scout, will be honoring the Austin scene this upcoming Tuesday, June 4th and here’s why you should be over the moon. Reminiscent of indie pop icons including Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, and Caitlin Rose, Jacklin effortlessly fuses dreamy indie pop with raw alternative-country. The singer songwriter released her first album, “Don’t Let the Kids Win”, in 2016 in her native Australia via the London-based indie label, Transgressive, and Polyvinyl in the U.S. Jacklin’s smoky vocals and haunting guitar quickly elevated the album to number 42 in Australia. Since then, Jacklin has released her self-titled album flaunting her range and diversity, featuring greater upbeat sounds while maintaining her evocative melancholy lyrics.
Portland native, Black Belt Eagle Scout, molds in as the perfect opening act for Jacklin. The solo project of Katherine Paul draws from alt-rock and Native American traditions. Paul is the master of the guitar riff and isn’t afraid to let it ring ubiquitously in her recent and only album thus far, “Mother of My Children”. Written as her loved ones protested at Standing Rock, during the dissolution of a queer romance, and after the death of a beloved mentor, Paul’s debut is a work of intersectional mourning.
The event, welcoming all 18+, will be held at Barracuda. Doors will open at 8pm with Black Belt Eagle Scout kicking things off at 9pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
