The Michigan death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder, will be recording their ninth album this summer, according to an article by Blabbermouth. The Black Dahlia Murder started making headlines again this spring when they announced they would be doing U.S. tour in early May, as we had previously reported.
The Black Dahlia Murder has not released an album since Nightbringers, which was released in 2017 and described as having a “sinister guitar sound with its classical feel” in previous mxdwn article.
Fans of Nightbringers hoping for a sequel album might be a little let down though. The guitarist for Black Dahlia Murder, Bran Eschbach, gave an interview in the aformentioned Blabbermouth article, in which he stated that the upcoming album will not be related to Nightbringers or any of their other previous albums; “I don’t think it will have too much to do with the last album, other than it’s the same band playing it,” Eschbach stated. “It’s not, like, a sequel or anything like that — just some more BLACK DAHLIA MURDER songs.”
However, the band did not make a conscious effort to change their sound or stay the same, it was just something that happened naturally, according to Eschbach via Blabbermouth. “It’s never really like a conscious efforts to try to do something different or stay the same. I know it’s the same for Brandon as it is for me — we just play with our guitars and mess around until something sounds cool, and [there’s] an idea that’s worth fleshing out and seeing what will be the next part and the part after that. We’re not really strategic about it – it just kind of happens. We don’t start writing songs with a goal in mind… It’s not thought-about like that.”
Since they have not even headed into the studio yet, they will do that this summer, there is no given time of reference for the album to drop but rest assured, fans of Black Dahlia Murder, new music is definitely on its way soon and in the meantime, you can re-listen to their previous eight albums in anticipation.
