Punk rock superstar Perry Farrell has released a new music video in support of his recently released single, “Pirate Punk Politician.” The song is one of Farrell’s only new singles of the past decade, and was released alongside the announcement of his upcoming solo album. The album will be Farrell’s first new solo project in eight years, and is titled Kind Heaven. Farrell has stated that the project will be out on June 7 via BMG.
Perry Farrell is one of the most groundbreaking punk rock musicians of the 1980s and 90s, serving as the frontman for Jane’s Addiction. Farrell and Jane’s Addiction influenced much of the punk rock movements that came to take over the turn of the century, forming a basis for many other world famous bands to follow. Another major contribution to music that Farrell has made is his founding of the Lollapalooza music festival. Originally started as a farewell event for Jane’s Addiction, the music festival now takes place at different cities across the globe each year. Still taking an active role in his project, Farrell has a hand in Lollapalooza each year.
Now, turning to focus more on his music, Farrell blew fans away last month by announcing the upcoming Kind Heaven project. He then went on to release the “Pirate Punk Politician” single the same day. A little over a month later, Farrell has now put out a full music video for the track. The music video for “Pirate Punk Politician” is fully animated, depicting a dystopian society that perfectly matches the tone of the song. Using images of propaganda posters, authoritarian soldiers and military strength, Farrell paints a picture of what he feels the country is headed for. All of these symbols are wrapped up in classic Americana influences that drive home the themes of the lyrics. Farrell is not shy about what caused him to create this track, as the silhouette of Donald Trump can be seen portraying various menacing figures throughout the video. An incredibly political and energetic song, “Pirate Punk Politician” sets a high bar for the rest of the Kind Heaven project. The new music video can be found below.
