Austin will be home to the first of its kind, Hot Luck Festival this upcoming May 23rd and 26th featuring live food and music. Self-proclaimed as a one-of-a-kind DIY casserole of the culinary and music, Hot Luck is both a festival occurring every Memorial Day weekend in Austin as well as a year-round roaming series of pop up events happening in cities all over the country.
The festival was originally created by James Beard Award-winner Aaron Franklin, Guerilla Suit principal and Mohawk owner James Moody, and Mike Thelin, co-founder of Feast Portland with the intention of creating a platform in which food and music can symbiotically inspire each other. On the food set, visitors can expect barbecue by Aaron Franklin, ramen by Ivan Orkin, wings by Andy Ricker, kebabs by Matty Matheson, steamed buns by Kristen Kish, and sushi by Yoshi Okai. The event will feature live music by acts including Sunflower Bean, Lucero, Leftover Salmon and the likes. The festival will be held at a variety of locations centered and around downtown Austin as well as surprise locations throughout the city. With ticket options ranging from $15 to $550, Hot Luck aims to be accessible to all.
Hot Luck generously donates a portion of the festival’s proceeds to The SAFE Alliance, a combination of two long-standing human service agencies in Austin, Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace.
