Experimental hip hop artist Dan the Automator has released his new single “Broke a Couple of Rules” from the soundtrack of Olivia Wilde’s directorial film debut Booksmart. According to Under the Radar, the new single is described as “a funky, scratch-centric collage.” Listen to the new song below.

The new single comes shortly after the announcement of Dan composing two scores for the film, set to be released this Friday. Along with the film, the first music score will be released digitally via Lakeshore Recordings.  The second will be released at a later date on vinyl exclusively in Urban Outfitter stores.

In a press release, Dan the Automator, also known as Dan Nakamura, released a statement about working on the film’s score. He stated, “With the release of the soundtrack, people can get an insight on the score and an expanded look at where some of the tracks could end up outside the context of the film.”

Booksmart is an R-rated coming of age comedy starring  Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, and Jessica Williams. The film centers two academically smart high school students who cram in some crazy good times the night before their graduation. It has received much critical acclaim, with it listed as 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
