Indie superstars Bon Iver has been busy revealing frontman Justin Vernon’s PEOPLE project last summer, in addition to multitude of prominent festival performances. The band has not slowed down however, as they have revealed new string of tour dates that will take the group across the country until it ends in September.
Bon Iver have currently closed out their early Spring tour in East Moline earlier this year, and will pick up the fall tour later this summer at Hilvarenbeek, NL. After this performance they will make a brief stop in London, and make a few stops across Europe in cities such as Madrid and Bergen.
While the group, and Vernon have experienced massive levels of success over the past decade, the group has tried to remain in touch with their indie roots by helping smaller artists rise through the ranks. This is done via Vernon’s art and music collective PEOPLE, which released a project for the group Big Red Machine, which Vernon is a part of.
“There’re plenty of musicians out there who have no idea how to sell themselves and, frankly, that’s one of my skills. I was able to figure out how to drop my CD For Emma, Forever Ago in the right hands, or whatever the fuck,” Vernon explained in an interview with The Creative Independent. “I think there’re plenty of people who can publish things on this platform without being mitigated by, like, “Oh, I don’t want to put it out before a label hears it, but if I don’t put it out a label won’t hear it… and then if they do hear it, it won’t be coming out for a year after I did the thing, and then I’ll just be sitting there with it in my hands,” etc. It can just get really messy really quick.”
Although Bon Iver is the group Vernon has most associated with, he’s not afraid to venture out into other projects or collaborate with other artists. In the past he has collaborated with artists such as Eminem, James Blake and Kanye West.
O”n the Bon Iver side of things, or with the National or any of these bands, we’ve got careers. I’m not shying away from that, but it’s kind of got its own momentum,” Vernon continued in the interview. “I love Bon Iver; I’ll always love the project. But I definitely have to leave it from time to time, otherwise it’s just too much focus, and too much energy surrounding an idea that is just a band, just a project idea. It’s not more than that.”
