Amanda Palmer, singer-songwriter and wife of author Neil Gaiman, has announced that she will be touring this summer in North America and continuing in the fall in Europe. Her unique and immersive experience includes songs such as “Let It Go” from Frozen and “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. Palmer’s performances incorporates diologue breaking the fourth wall with the audience and a big personality to supplement the small scale of performances seated behind a piano. Palmer expertly combines her musical talent and comedic timing for an encapsulating show for cynics and Disney lovers alike.
Along with her musical career, Palmer has won many awards––namely from her home town of Boston––from The Bonston Globe’s 2005 most stylish woman in Boston to the Boston Music Awards’ Artist of the Year in 2010. Amanda Palmer is also an advocate for the LGBT+ community, after sharing in an interview with afterellen.com: “I’m bisexual, but it’s not the sort of thing I spent a lot of time thinking about. I’ve slept with girls; I’ve slept with guys, so I guess that’s what they call it! I’m not anti trying to use language to simplify our lives.” Palmer’s life is no less than worldly, as she has lso stated that she once worked as a stripper under the name Berlin and is an active practicer of meditation.
Palmer’s choice of songs are also a reflection of the trouble she went through during a miscarriage and the depression she faced after an abortion. In “Let It Go,” Palmer talks about the heartbreak and isolation she felt during her miscarriage, and during “Part of Your World,” she shares the grief of her abortion. She continues her set by talking about the heart beat law passed in Georgia and the fight for women to have access to safe birth control and abortion methods.
Most recently, Palmer performed at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles for 4.5 hours, sans intermission, through personal songs, covers, anecdotes about her life, and stories of advocacy for women and minorities.
