Organizers of Woodstock 50 have filed a legal petition for injunction against festival investor Dentsu Aegis, who canceled the festival. The petition has been filed with the Supreme Court of the State of New York and asks for the Court to place a gag order on Dentsu, preventing them from speaking with the media, state officials, performers, and others, according to Rolling Stone. It also forces the company to pay $17.8 million back to the festival, compel it to continue work on the fest, be more transparent in its accounting and anything else the judge would feel is fair.
It was earlier reported that festival co-founder Michael Lang, claimed that Dentsu embezzled upwards of 17 million dollars and encouraged Woodstock 50 talent and vendors to drop the festival and perform at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics instead, an event that Dentsu is apart of.
Lang is still adamant that the festival is still taking place Aug.16-18 in Watkins Glen, NY. Dead and Company, Jay-Z, Imagine Dragons, and Chance are a part if the bill, potentially taking place in Watkins Glen. Other acts on the lineup include Halsey, Sturgill Simpson, Janelle Monae and Miley Cyrus. The petition claims the festival needs “$6 to $9 million” in various fees to ensure Woodstock 50 takes place.
