In celebration of the upcoming Mother’s Day, Brandi Carlile has released the official video for “The Mother”. An all-female crew is credited with producing and creating the empowering video. A true tribute to mothers across the world, the video depicts motherhood from a diverse range of cultures, religions, races, and lifestyles.
The song itself is very calm and relaxing, yet empowering. Carlile used her lyrics to describe a day in the life of a mother:
“She’s fair and she is quiet, Lord, she doesn’t look like me
She made me love the morning, she’s a holiday at sea
The New York streets are as busy as they always used to be
But I am the mother of Evangeline
The first things that she took from me were selfishness and sleep
She broke a thousand heirlooms I was never meant to keep
She filled my life with color, cancelled plans and trashed my car
But none of that is ever who we are”
Throughout “The Mother” video, women from different backgrounds are seen in their truest forms as mothers. The video begins with several mothers wakening or being awakened by their young children. It then turns to mothers starting their mornings off by cooking breakfast and combing their daughter’s hair before officially beginning their day in full mommy mode.
Besides creating heartfelt music as a dedication to mothers worldwide, Carlile has been a busy woman. She has been nominated for two awards at the 2019 CMT Music Awards: Female Video of the Year (“The Joke”) and CMT Performance of the Year(“(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” The two nominations come in celebration of Carlile’s GRAMMY Award-winning album, By The Way, I Forgive You, which features her new song “The Mother.” Other than attending award shows, Carlile shows no signs of slowing down as she will continue her extensive tour through 2019 including a special debut headline performance at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on September 14.
