Lizzo with Tayla Parx at the TLA 5/18

In the last year Lizzo has not only established herself as a queen of pop and R&B, but as a queen, period. From her songs to her social media to her performances, everything that Lizzo does is authentic and unapologetic. Taking notes from gospel and soul, rap, and classical flute (you read that right–she studied classic flute at the University of Houston), Lizzo’s music weaves between genres to tackle issues of race, sexuality, and body positivity with a healthy dose of humor. And she doesn’t just talk the talk–Lizzo completely embodies the messages in her music with confidence and joy. Her new album, Cuz I Love You was released this month, with tracks like “Truth Hurts” and “Juice” becoming instant hits. I wouldn’t miss a chance to see Lizzo up close and personal at the TLA, because she’s definitely going to be twerking while playing the flute (yes, twerking while playing the FLUTE) on much bigger stages very soon.

Tayla Parx is a songwriter, actress, and GRAMMY nominated singer. She is the genius behind Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” and “thank u, next,” as well as Panic at the Disco’s “High Hopes,” making her the first female songwriter to have three simultaneous top 10 songs. Her new album We Need to Talk was just released last month. Check out her hit song “Runaway” featuring Khalid.
